The Soviet-Afghan War was a armed conflict fought in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan that took place on 24th December 1979 and ended 15th February 1989. Just about all military operations against the mujahideen took place in the Afghan countryside. Since the country’s built up areas were completely under Russian control. Support for the Afghan Mujahedeen came to from numerous countries. The majority came from Pakistan, the United States (as part of Operation Cyclone), the United Kingdom, China, Iran and the Arab states.
