Sojers History

Sojers History

I am trying to compile a history of Sojers. If anybody can help me in this matter I would be greatly appreciative – maybe some old magazine cuttings, catalogues, a little bit of history of the original owners.

East Front Miniatures Sojers History

East Front Miniatures (Mr A I Bruce) acquired the 20mm WW2 D-Day Plus ranges on 12th June 2023 from Stuart, they used to be called “Sojers”. I will be reverting back to the original brand name of Sojers.

I have now taken up the baton of selling and producing Sojers.

Thoroughbred Figures Sojers History

“Thoroughbred Figures (Toby Barrett), In 2006 I started the Sojers product line and was the original copyright holder.

The name ‘Sojers’ was taken from the WW2 cartoons of Willie and Joe in the Up Front series of comics by Bill Mauldin.  The characters Willie and Joe always referred to themselves as ‘Sojers’ a bastardized version of soldier.

I designed and produced the first USA vehicles, Jeep, 2 types of 1/2 tracks and a Dodge 3/4 ton truck.  I started a Sherman tank but never finished it.

Alan Marsh was commissioned by me to sculpt the masters for the US and German 20mm figures.  Alan did the greens and I pro-typed them and cast them up for production and sale.  I had them for about ten years and the plan was to add Russians.

The figures were to be designed as the same style and size of Anthony Barton’s WW2 20mm.

I sold all the Sojers 20mm product line to Sgt Major Miniatures (Andrew Turlington) in 2015. Everything went to him including formal transfer of copyright, all masters (including my USA vehicles), greens, prototypes (special resins) production models and molds, remaining stock, and painted display figures I took to shows and conventions.  I also gave Andy any folders of photos, design notes etc.”
