The purpose of this handbook is to allow you to use the Panzer Korps rules to wargame the Spanish Civil War.

This war was a transition between WWI and WWII where new weapons and tactics were tried out.

The Nationalist “Rebels”

Also, it is very interesting because of its diversity of unusual units. The Nationalist “Rebels” were an uneven alliance of the regioniously conservative Carlists and Isabellistas. The anti-clerical Flangist Fascists, the professional soldiers of the Spanish Army of North Africa, and the Regular Army conscripts

Facing these was an uneasy coalition of Leftist militias: Anarchists, Socialists, and Communists (Who sometimes took shots at each other instead of the enemy!), and then there were the Catholic Basques, seconalistic Catalonians, the International Brigades, and Assault Police.

An explosive mixture! Your wargame is no longer simply pitting one team against the other, but on each team, the factions will be trying to out do, and maybe even back stab their rivals!

The possibilities for intrigue and strategies make a normal WWII game seem bland! The figures are fun to paint, since you have so many types of units, and they still carried colorful flags too!

Since the troops wore surplus WWI uniforms and helmets, along with gear that was used in WWII, you may be able to use figures that you all ready have in your collection, such as Italians French, Russians, or Germans.

Also, there are all sorts of tanks and weird home-built armored trucks that are fun to collect and game with. -Ron Vaughn
